Plant Disease Diagnostic Lab Highlights

The following plant disease highlights have been compiled from samples submitted to the University of Kentucky Plant Disease Diagnostic Laboratory from February 1 to February 28, 2023. 

Rodent injury was diagnosed on forage fescue.  On greenhouse vegetables and ornamental crops, we observed broad mite injury on cucumber; Botrytis blight on lettuce; air pollutant injury on petunia; crown gall on geranium; blue mold rot on tulip; abiotic leaf scorch on fern; and mealybug infestation on schefflera.

On woody plants, diagnoses included internal bark necrosis (abiotic disorder) on apple; chestnut blight on chestnut; secondary beetle infestation on pine; Rhizophaera needle cast on spruce; and winter injury/winter desiccation on euonymus, holly, and nandina.
