Plant Disease Diagnostic Lab Highlights

The following plant disease highlights from the University of Kentucky Plant Disease Diagnostic Laboratories represent recent sample submissions from vegetables and ornamentals.

Diseases diagnosed on vegetable crops in greenhouse/high tunnel production during January have included black rot (Xanthomonas campestris) on kale (also on field-grown Brussels sprouts); drop on lettuce, and white mold on fennel (Sclerotinia sp.); and tobacco mosaic virus on tomato.

On ornamentals, we have diagnosed powdery mildew on bluegrass; Armillaria root rot on apple; and Rhizosphaera needle cast on spruce.
