The following plant disease highlights from the University of Kentucky Plant Disease Diagnostic Laboratories represent recent sample submissions from fruit, vegetables, and ornamentals.
Recent fruit and vegetable samples have included bacterial leaf scorch on blueberry; thread blight and black rot on apple; Alternaria head rot on broccoli; Cercospora leaf spot on collard; charcoal rot on pepper; Pythium root rot, Rhizoctonia stem canker, leaf mold, tobacco mosaic virus, and tomato yellow leaf curl virus on greenhouse tomato.
On ornamentals, we have diagnosed bacterial leaf spot and Cercospora leaf spot on hydrangea; rust on rose; Marssonina leaf spot on maple; bacterial leaf scorch on oak; pine wilt (nematode) and tip blight on pine; Cytospora canker, Rhizosphaera and Stigmina needle diseases, and general decline on spruce.
