Plant Disease Diagnostic Lab Highlights

The following plant disease highlights from the University of Kentucky Plant Disease Diagnostic Laboratories represent recent sample submissions from field crops, fruit, vegetables, and ornamentals.

Recent agronomic samples have included anthracnose, sudden death syndrome, soybean cyst nematode, and frogeye leaf spot on soybean; black shank and frenching on tobacco.

On vegetable crops, we have seen Cercospora leaf spot on okra; Phytophthora blight on pumpkin; Septoria leaf spot and leaf mold on tomato.

On ornamentals and turf, we have diagnosed Rhizoctonia web blight and Pythium root rot on chrysanthemum; fungal (Cercospora and Coccomyces) and bacterial leaf spots on cherry; spot anthracnose on dogwood; anthracnose and Verticillium wilt on maple; and anthracnose on bentgrass.
