The following plant disease highlights from the UK Plant Disease Diagnostic Laboratories represent recent sample submissions from field crops, fruit, vegetables, and ornamentals.
Recent agronomic samples have included target spot, bacterial blackleg, and heat injury on tobacco transplants.
On fruit and vegetable crops, we have seen common leaf spot (Mycosphaerella) on strawberry; bacterial leaf spot on cherry; Botrytis blight, Sclerotinia fruit rot, and Pythium root rot on greenhouse tomato.
On ornamentals and turf, we have diagnosed mite injury on New Guinea impatiens; Botrytis blight, nitrogen deficiency, and thrips injury on calibrachoa; spot anthracnose and slime flux on dogwood; anthracnose on lilac; Botryosphaeria canker on juniper; Seiridium canker on Leyland cypress and arborvitae; rose mosaic virus on rose; winter injury on azalea, boxwood, cryptomeria, holly, and Leyland cypress; and dollar spot on bentgrass.
