The following plant disease highlights from the UK Plant Disease Diagnostic Laboratories represent recent sample submissions from field crops, fruit, vegetables, and ornamentals.
Agronomic samples over the past week included brown spot, sudden death syndrome, soybean cyst nematode, and potassium deficiency on soybean; and black shank and brown spot (Alternaria) on tobacco.
On fruit and vegetable samples, diagnoses included Cercospora leaf spot on blackberry, Sphaerulina leaf spot raspberry; Isariopsis leaf blight on grape; bitter rot on apple; alfalfa mosaic virus on pepper; and downy mildew on cucurbit crops.
On ornamentals and turf, we have seen web blight, Pythium root rot and Fusarium wilt on chrysanthemum; Pestalotia twig blight on arborvitae; anthracnose and Botryosphaeria canker on ash; Septoria leaf spot on dogwood; bacterial leaf scorch on oak; and brown patch on fescue.
