The following plant disease highlights from the UK Plant Disease Diagnostic Laboratories represent recent sample submissions from field crops, fruit, vegetables, and ornamentals.
During the past week, agronomic crop diagnoses included frogeye and compaction on soybean; blue mold and tomato spotted wilt virus on tobacco.
On fruit and vegetable samples, diagnoses included Botryosphaeria canker on cherry; Phytophthora crown rot on rhubarb; Alternaria leaf blight on cantaloupe; downy mildew on cucumber; powdery mildew and Cercospora leaf spot on pumpkin and squash; cottony leak (Pythium) on watermelon; scab on potato; Septoria leaf spot, early blight and Fusarium wilt on tomato.
On ornamentals and turf, we diagnosed Rhizoctonia web blight and Fusarium wilt on chrysanthemum; powdery mildew on dogwood and euonymus; Volutella canker on boxwood; Botryosphaeria canker/dieback on rose and oak; Cercospora leaf spot on willow; and Pythium blight on ryegrass.
