Plant Disease Diagnostic Lab Highlights  

The following plant disease highlights from the UK Plant Disease Diagnostic Laboratories represent recent sample submissions from field crops, fruit and vegetables, and ornamentals.

During the past week, diagnoses included Pythium root rot on tobacco transplants; anthracnose and iron deficiency on strawberry; Phytophthora root rot on blueberry; Botryosphaeria canker on apple; leaf curl on peach; Phytophthora root rot on spinach; Pythium root rot, southern blight, leaf mold, tobacco mosaic virus, and tomato spotted wilt virus on tomato.

On ornamentals, we have seen anthracnose on ash and maple; downy spot on hickory; black root rot on holly; powdery mildew on ninebark; Dothistroma needle blight on pine; Rhizosphaera needlecast and Stigmina needle blight on spruce; and winter injury/desiccation on various landscape specimens.
